Job Description

Seeking Director to lead development of plans to meet DRI's mission and vision, ensuring delivery of key performance indicators and securing additional funding sources for long-term sustainability and strategic growth. The Director will oversee the strategic, operational, and budgetary imperatives of the DRI national research infrastructure, ensuring good governance and maintaining strong lines of communication with partners and stakeholders. The role requires a visible advocate for DRI's mandate, contributing to policy development at institutional, national, and international levels. The Director will serve as Principal Investigator on several research projects, ensuring project milestones are met and contributing positively to DRI's strategic priorities. The role also involves providing line management for seven direct reports and representing DRI to the general public, maintaining effective working relationships with member institutions and stakeholders. The Director will be responsible for ensuring the continued implementation of good governance at the DRI, including reporting to the DRI Board and maintaining regular contact with the Chair. The role requires a strong leader who can keep abreast of key developments in the field, maintaining active participation in national and international fora central to DRI's strategic focus on Digital Preservation, Open Science, and Digital Cultural Heritage. The Director will be a key ambassador for the DRI, building new connections within DRI's designated communities and providing strategic direction to the Management Team. The role is a specified-purpose contract from 1 January – 31 December 2023 for a Director to cover a career break for the current DRI Director. The Director will assume the responsibilities of the current Director, who as chief executive has responsibility for DRI's direction, leadership, management, and ongoing service delivery. The Director will lead the DRI's Management Team and be responsible to the DRI Board. As an employee of the Royal Irish Academy, the Director will report to the RIA Executive Director. The key responsibilities of the role include leading the development of plans to meet DRI's mission and vision, ensuring the delivery of key performance indicators, securing additional funding sources, and taking a visible role in advocacy on issues central to DRI's mandate. The Director will also be responsible for serving as Principal Investigator on several research projects, ensuring project milestones are met, and contributing positively to DRI's strategic priorities. The role requires a strong leader who can maintain active participation in national and international fora, keep abreast of key developments in the field, and represent DRI to the general public. The Director will also provide line management for seven direct reports and coordinate with DRI staff at Trinity College Dublin and Maynooth University. The role is a key position within the DRI, and the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the continued implementation of good governance, maintaining strong lines of communication with partners and stakeholders, and providing strategic direction to the Management Team. The Director will be a key ambassador for the DRI, building new connections within DRI's designated communities and providing a visible advocate for DRI's mandate.
